DR10 Insurance UK report on charities campaigning for lower legal alcohol blood content limits, as convictions falling at record rate.
In the UK the number of people that have been convicted of drink driving has fallen. Approximately 6,500 people were arrested over the month long Christmas and New Year campaign which is over 500 less than the previous year.
Despite the fall in drink driving and dr10 convictions handed out, road safety charities are campaigning for the drink drive alcohol limit to be reduced.
Drivers in the UK who are found to have an alcohol blood content over the legal limit can face fines, driving bans and prison sentences. They will then need a specialist DR10 Insurance policy once their ban has ended to allow them back on the road, which can be arranged through www.dr10-insurance.com.
RoSPA (The Royal Society for the Provention of Accidents) is calling for the Government to follow the Scottish and Irish and reduce the legal limit from 80mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood to 50mg.
Brake, another leading road safety charity, would like to see a zero alcohol limit enforced.
Whilst drink driving has always been a problem that is clearly in the public view, drug driving has also been recently targetted by the police and campaigners alike. In 2013 there was an approximate 30% increase in the number of tests carried out resulting in a 28% arrest rate.
